Adventures of a 8-bit ninja demo and update log

Currently I have running jumping and attacking physics for the ninja. 5 complete enemies, and some textures and graphics.

By the end I want to have three game modes. (endless survive, endless waves-protect the dojo, and story mode) A level select system like gravity hop, a complete menu, different music for different themes, (normal, ice, lava, defend the dojo) and a story!

I'll update this discussion whenever I make a significant update.

  • I think everything so far works amazingly! Just some different sprites for the floor/walls, of course. Did you make the actual animations and spritework for the character! That looks awesome! Can't wait to see what you do with it!

  • The ninja sprite and about half of the animations are from opengameart.org but I made bout half of the animations and I also arranged them.
  • You should start making your own sprites.
  • I do make a lot on my own, but I couldn't make anything near the detail and animations I can get elsewhere, though when possible I make my own I if borrowing artwork will make the game significantly better, I generally do that.

    NEW MECHANICS:

    1: Flip attack, flip into the bat to destroy it.

    2: Dive attack, press S when off the ground to dive down and deal some damage (enemies coming in future update)

    3: Energy bar, flipping or attacking decreases your energy, make sure you have enough energy to do an attack before you try it.

  • OK, I'm back, I haven't had a lot of time to work on my game recently but I have finally added a new update!!!!!

    NEW ENEMY:

    Floating skull: This enemy will follow you around the map and every 5 seconds it will open its mouth and fire a fireball at you. When I saw the skull head @rcreger made I couldn't not make an enemy out of it.

    NOTE: Due to a glitch in flowlab I have not been able to upload the background @rcreger made for me, I am going to screen record report it soon.

    Next update: More enemies and possibly health.

  • I wonder if this game will have a story. This game is amazing and if it did have a story it would make the game more interesting and more attaching. But its your game, and this is a suggestion. Keep doing the good work!

    It's not dead @Dan studios I haven't been able to do much work for the past several weeks.

    @ShadowAxeKid I intend for the game to be an endless wave challenge game but I might build a story mode concept along with that but there is one thing mainly holding me back, graphics.

    In order to make a story mode I would want each level to take place in a different arena with differant backgrounds and textures. For endless however I need only to make one arena.

    I have been taking a brake but I haven't been completely idle. I've been looking for and designing new enemies which I will soon make the code for. They will probably come out in the next few days and a playable version can be expected in probably near to a month.

    If you need it, I can help you with block design, animation, and graphics. Just give me a name of the thing you want me to make and the website you want it drawn on, and I'll have it ready before you could say SpriteMaker. I will have my drawing tablet ready.
    But that is if you want that. I'm perfectly fine with you saying no.
  • If you wanted to make me some fantasy type enemies it would be much appreciated. I just need it no larger than 64-64 and in a PNG or ZIP.

    What are you looking for? Orcs, skeletons, dragons? also, what website you want them drawn on? Do you want animations with them to? I can do that if the website can.
  • Do whatever, you make a cool looking orc, ill put it in the game, you make a neat skeleton, ill use it. Use whatever site you want, although I would recommend http://piskelapp.com. I just need a walking-running animation.

    Skeleton
    There is a skeleton if you want to use it. I suggest 6FPS.

  • @my_name (<_>) I have a suggestion for flying monsters.

    When a flying monster dies, make it set a random position out of the camera screen, while resetting its health bar and all its properties, and have the same process again, such as they flying skull. It dies and will basically teleport in the sky where you can't see it. My Dimension is an example if it makes more sense.

  • And its time for another update log! (finally) I've been taking a break recently but I'm back now, with some significant progress!

    NEW ENEMY:

    Orc: Moves in large groups, does not have an attack animation but does damage to the player upon contact.

    NEW ENEMY:

    Skeleton barrels: A barrel will drop out of the sky and explode, shooting out peaces of the barrel with will hurt if contacted. It will also drop skeletons with explode after 3 seconds, causing significant damage if nearby.

    NEW ENEMY MECHANIC:

    Swarming: Basically now no enemy is solid, meaning they can overlap each other and swarm the player. This makes a really cool effect and also mean I needed to fake gravity, which was surprisingly difficult.

    Next update: I have four more enemies currently planed. After that I'll get started on the story mode or endless mode, I don't know which to start on first.

  • I'm suddenly having really bad lag in the Html5 version of my game. do you guys experience the same thing?

    Also @ShadowAxeKid could you maybe make a skeleton walk-running animation that is a bit smaller? like closer to 32 pixels. No probs if you don't want to but I'm not sure I can use the big one.
